Fragrance Free-- Please refrain from wearing cologne, perfume or other scented products to class, as many people are very sensitive to the chemicals in synthetic fragrances. Also, if you smoke, please do not smoke right before class, as the scent lingers and can bother other dancers. Thanks for your cooperation, we really appreciate it!
Personal Hygiene-- Personal hygiene is important in partner dancing, as we are in close proximity to others. Please come to class with a clean body, clean clothes, and fresh breath. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need a partner?
No partner needed! Many people do not come with a partner, though you are welcome to take the class with a partner. We rotate partners in class and feel that trying out steps and techniques with many partners helps accelerate learning, and builds versatile, adaptable dancers. That being said, if you come with a partner, you can choose to just dance with your partner for the entire class.

Q: How early should I arrive and where should I park?
For the first class in a series try to arrive 10-15 minutes early to pay and check-in. For the following classes, arrive so you have enough time to change your shoes and get settled in and perhaps to warm-up to a song or two. The 602 Club has a couple of designated parking spots and plenty of free street parking. Enter through the back door of the building.

Q: What type of shoes should I wear?
For beginner's tango classes we recommend that you wear dance shoes or any style of street shoe that is comfortable and allows you to easily pivot/spin on the ball of your foot on a wooden floor. Avoid anything with a pointed toe that elongates the foot or any shoe with a black sole that would leave marks on a light colored dance floor. You can also get by in sneakers like Puma, Converse or Tom's shoes. Flats or heels are fine for ladies; wear what is most comfortable. Clean socks are also an easy option for men and women. If you already have some type of dance shoes, those are great to wear. Examples: tango, ballroom, swing or salsa shoes. Jazz shoes or dance sneakers are also great for class. You do not need to buy new shoes for class unless you want to. Once you are sure that you will be studying tango for a while, we recommend buying a pair of tango shoes. Shoes are the only "equipment" you need for tango, so if you have the money to invest, a pair of high quality tango shoes can really make a difference in your dancing. See our Tango Shoes webpage for more info. |
Q: What kind of clothing should I wear?
You should wear clothes that you are comfortable moving in. We will not be doing anything extremely aerobic, so you don't need to come dressed for the gym or a yoga class, but tight jeans may feel too restrictive. Typically, men wear dress pants and a nice shirt, women wear flowing pants or casual dresses & skirts, or leggings under a skirt or dress. Some people love dressing up for class and some prefer to wear a t-shirt and jeans. Simply wear what you are comfortable in.
